Windsor is off Highway 101, which extends north through Oregon and Washington. South of Windsor is Santa Rosa, which is six times larger in population. To the west are smaller towns such as Guerneville, Rio Nido and Forestville. Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, just a 20 minute drive away, is a world-known tourist attraction and local favorite. North of Windsor is Healdsburg, renowned for its world-class wine and artisan cheeses.


The median home value is $563,000, according to  Windsor’s home values have gone up 6.3% since 2015, and are expected to rise 1.4% by 2017.   Town of Windsor has received awards and recognition for the quality of its Old Redwood Highway Improvements Project. Windsor is known as supporting sustainable businesses and having low crime rates.


Windsor offers plenty of activities to do with family and friends. Several community and neighborhood parks are located directly within the Town of Windsor. Most parks offer sports fields, picnic areas, and play structures. Local regional parks like Foothill and Shiloh Ranch Regional Park have trails with beautiful scenic views. Windsor was not incorporated as a town until July of 1992. It experienced an economic boom when housing dramatically grew. Beforehand, Windsor was considered “unincorporated Sonoma County.”  Since then, Windsor has hosted annual events such as Earth Day and Wellness Festival, Windsor Days Parade, Cinco de Mayo Festival, and Community Art and Flower Show. Everyone can enjoy the live music, recreational classes, event information booths, food vendors and produce from the Windsor Farmers’ Market.

The Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa is on the border of Windsor.  The airport offers flights to Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Las Vegas and Phoenix-Mesa. It is also home to the "Wings over Wine Country Air Show," which is the largest air show in the North Bay and attracts over 25,000 visitors.

Windsor is home to two high schools: Windsor High School and Windsor Oaks Academy. There are seven elementary schools, including a charter school, private school, and special education needs school. Higher education facilities near Windsor include Empire College, Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State University.
